sai removel kit and a different tune (currently using tor tune) he says it will be about 1.5 hours in labor.
first whats a sai removal kit and what do i really need. just looking for a little more sound and power would be nice.

very simply the SAI is there to burn off unspent fuel quicker, particularly on cold start.
you may experiance more popping if you decat without turning it off - you may like that
if you dont
you can un sai you bike using a laptop and the free software from tom hamburg ( tuneecu). there are tunes on his site and there are tunes here that will give you a tune mapped with or without sai.
check out dizzes tunes

More dealer BS! Why even bother to talk to them?

For 20 mins of your own labor, and the leaning curve of TuneECU, you can make it so, yourself.

It depends on the age of your bike, they are not fitted to the newer models (2011 on), have a look under your left side panel and if there are some hoses and relays in there you have it. If there is just an empty bracket that looks like something should have been there you dont have it. There are pictures around with the system in place.

I remember reading in one of these tech sections that the older bikes have CAI, but that it is not activated from the factory because the emissions are good enough without it. I don't know how true this is, but maybe it's absence on the newer machines can attest to it. Getting back to the original question - I don't think it makes a huge power difference between cat and no cat, but the noise difference is considerable. I like open pipes, mind you, but without cat and with predators it was a bit too open for my riding habits - heavy traffic on highway and multi-lane secondary roads combined with frequent full throttle use means a ton of pissed off drivers for having their teeth shaken, babies crying, old lady heart attacks, cats and dogs, etc... Cats in still means a good thump, good power, and they can still hear me approaching. As for your tune, check the tune repository, and the tutorials on using tune-ecu, and you won't be disappointed - Ed.

Sorry, just read your post more thoroughly. If the short tors aren't enough, the next step is de-cat. You do not need to remove the Secondary Air Injection (SAI) so tell that dude at your dealer to take a hike. Removing the will affect the fueling, and you need to have the ecu remapped by somebody if you can't figure out how to do it yourself.

I'm running short TORS with no cat, KN filter, thunderbike high flow air intake and I have the TOR tune.

It is loud when you accelerate and has become a fair bit deeper the last few weeks, it was a bit raspy early on and I like the popping on decel.

I have more power down low and also it feels like more torque when passing at highways speeds, overall I happy with the package .

I have been looking at maybe adding a balance tube my current 38mm 45deg steel pipes that have replaced the cat $20 or the Staintune collector $550 + freight or this nice SS setup on UK ebay $420 shipped.

On a separate issue I have also ordered these to raise the height of the front forks 25mm to help increase clearance on corners.

Just removed my CAT last night and installed the stainless steel bent pipes (another TBird buddy had 3 sets made, $35 taxes in) and K&N Filter. Took about an hour. I run with the stock pipes. The sound is alot deeper, a nice rumble. When I cracked it open this morning on the highway, it sounds great. Got a couple of pops on decel but nothing that bothers me to much.

I'll monitor it for the next couple of days and see how it pans out, see if I want to keep this configuration.

the dealer put in the t.o.r. map when i put on the shortys. are you saying if i put on the cat replacement crossover i won't need to turn-off
or remove the SAI? will i get excessive popping if i don't? i want more sound but i don't want to jeopardize my warranty or bike. its got 300
miles on it. i removed the AI on my america but that was simple and it all but eliminated the decal popping on that bike. this seems a little
more complicated.
